Half Acre Galactic Double Daisy Cutter
First off, a big thanks to my dad for sending me a 4 pack of this wonderful brew, Half Acre is one of my favorite midwestern breweries and could be my favorite brewery out of my hometown of Chicago. I’ve made it clear how much I love Daisy Cutter and I did enjoy Double Daisy Cutter, but I felt it was a bit lacking. Enter, Galactic Double Daisy Cutter, made with galaxy hops from Australia to add to the dank nature of Daisy Cutter. It pours a really hazy orange, amber color with a really nice white head that stands about 3 fingers high. The head has nice tight bubbles and has fantastic retention and leaves behind great striped lacing. The aroma is incredible, a wonderfully dank floral bouquet leaps out out of the glass, analogous to sticking one’s face in a wild meadow, bright citrus notes come out with a big grapefruit presence as well. Nice resinous aromas of pine sap sneak out at the finish with just the faintest cereal grain, make no mistake this is one hop forward aroma, a great change of pace from both previous Daisy Cutter offerings. The flavors are just as fantastic, starts with a big burst of citrus, oranges and grapefruits, that is followed by a strong dank floral presence, almost like rosewater or hibiscus water with a strong backing of grassiness and weediness, hop pot if you will, that is finished by an absurdly bitter rush of coniferous flavors. The malt is nowhere to be found, this is a hoppy beer and a hoppy beer only. The flavor profile really highlights the galaxy hop, fruity and citrusy with a nice dank floral backing, easily the best use of the hop I’ve ever encountered. The body is spot on, big and full, juicy texture that has a perfectly dry bitter finish.
Verdict: Incredible DIPA from Half Acre and in my opinion, the best beer they make. I love Daisy Cutter but this takes it to a whole new level. I can’t get over how hazy and dank this beer is without becoming overly vegetal. Please Half Acre, make this beer more often. (4.45/5)
